Scientifically proven

In April 2014 we received confirmation that Extraglaze is a scientifically proven thermal insulation solution that beats a typical aluminium framed alternative.

The "Reminders" is used to remind the customer that he has calculated projects that were not ordered.
It records a new position in the table for each change in the status of a reminder for each project.
For example:
- when an order is found after the last modifying date of the project a record with the id of the project and the id of the status "Project backdates an order" is added in the "reminders" table
- when the first reminder is sent a new record is added with the id of the project and the id of the status "Reminder 1 sent"
- when the second reminder is sent a new record is added with the id of the project and the id of the status "Reminder 2 sent"
- when a customer clicks the link in his email to stop receiving the reminders a new record is added with the ip of the project and the id of the status "Cancelled by customer"

This is why the project will have multiple records in the "Reminders" table with a history of the actions taken on the project.
The last record in this history is displayed in the "Projects" page, telling you the current reminders status of the project.

To cancel the emails for a project you can manually add another record in the "Reminders", selecting the project and setting it to the status "Cancelled by Admin".
To cancel the emails for all the projects of a customer manually add another record, selecting any one of the projects of that customer and set it to the status "Admin cancelled all projects".

When a customer clicks the link to stop receivining this emails he will automatically have all his projects added in the "Reminders" table with the status "Cancelled by customer".

When a project is modified it's status is automatically set to "Reminder reset" and the counting of days until the first reminder will start again.
If the last status is already set to "Reminder reset" when modifying the project no other records will be added in the "Reminders" table.

If a project is added/modified by a user with an email address defined in the "Exclude emails" field from the Settings, the record added in the "Reminders" table will have the status "Email excluded".

If a user is deleted by there are still projects recorded in the database this will be added in the "Reminders" with the status "Email not found".

The status "Switched to email communication" was defined so you can mark a project opened by a customer that sent you an email or called you (started the conversation through other chanels).

To set the parameters for the reminders access the "Reminders" tab in the "Settings" page.

Being an Approved Extraglaze Fitter is a genuine addition to your portfolio. Please note especially that winter is our busiest time, just when many trades suffer a quiet period.

We get "Fitted by Us" enquiries from all over the country,
with projects ranging from one window to van meddozens. We want to be able to pass on these enquiries, free of charge, to nearby fitters that have been approved by ourselves. If you are a tradesman or consider yourself similarly skilled then we would be happy to hear from you and guide you through the approval process.

There are no fees or subscriptions. However, Extraglaze must give our customers confidence that all the fitters we recommend have been approved. For this reason you would be required to complete a training course, here in Shropshire.

Approved Extraglaze Fitters offer the following services free of charge locally, just like we do ourselves for enquiries close to our main office:

  • Survey a property
  • Provide a fixed price quotation

Perhaps best of all, our customers rave about Extraglaze, consequently many installations that you complete will generate others, from a friend or neighbour.

The benefits of becoming an Approved Extraglaze Fitter

After successfully completing a training course here in Shropshire we will give you:

  • qualified customer leads
  • free phone support, including Skype, email, etc,
  • help on site when needed (this would be chargeable)

All purchasers of our products have a dedicated 'My Account' online, so you can order 24/7, with full traceability.

Care of your Extraglaze Secondary Glazing Panels

With a little care and attention your Extraglaze Secondary Glazing panels will last many years to come. By following these simple guidelines they will continue to look their best, keep your home more comfortable every winter and prove their worth further even as they preserve your windows

Avoid fusion – Our standard foundation magnets are laminated (usually white) and not prone to this problem. If your installation includes the very dark brown unlaminated magnets then the magnet surfaces will benefit from being separated from time to time, to prevent them fusing together. We recommend you simply lift off and refit each panel at least once a year.

Avoid overheating – Extraglaze Secondary Glazing is not affected by the sun's rays to any significant extent. However, while the sun's rays pass through harmlessly, on the sunniest days the air in the cavity will get hot and this will in turn heat the panel, causing it to expand. In mid-summer this may be a problem for big panels, and especially those on South facing windows. Please act and apply common sense to reduce this risk. If you close curtains the windows, and therefore the panels, will get even warmer. We recommend you be aware of this, and do not hesitate to remove the panels during extended hot periods.

Refit correctly – If you remove a panel please make sure it goes back in the exact same location. If Extraglaze Secondary Glazing stickers have been applied then refit your panel so that this sticker is upright (this is a good reason to never remove the stickers). If in doubt, please check as follows: the butt joints on the panel (where the magnets meet in the corners at right angles) should meet identical butt joints on the window frame (no lengths of magnetic strip should straddle a butt joint). If the magnets seem to have stopped being magnetic this is because the panel is not lined up correctly with the magnets - please take a look close up!

Some cleaning rules – the panel material is likely to scratch if wiped or cleaned with anything other than clean pure cotton or a “micro fibre” cloth. Please always test any cloth in an inconspicuous corner. You can buy micro fibre cloths at any supermarket , or buy our own approved cloths and a formulated-for-purpose cleaner from the Extraglaze Secondary Glazing web site, or contact your fitter. Never use paper tissue on your Extraglaze Secondary Glazing. Paper products nearly always contain minerals, which give the paper surface some hardness. These minerals are extremely abrasive, although microscopic.

Condensation in the cavity – this can happen, especially if the panels are fitted on a cold day: while the panels are being installed the cold glass in your existing window will catch the installer's breath and this will be trapped in the cavity behind the Extraglaze Secondary Glazing. If this happens please simply take the panel off on a warm, dry day and waft the window so that the moist air is replaced! Condensation is also likely where windows are not maintained externally and insufficiently protected from the elements. The window frame should be inspected for dampness or water ingress (i.e. coming in from outside). Sometimes the cause is an overflowing gutter. If any of the wood that makes up the window frame is wet then this will sweat dampness into the cavity on a warm day, and this will condense on the outside glass when it cools again. Please also check the panel is always located correctly on the foundation magnets. For more information about condensation please see our article How to Stop Condensation.

Examples of bespoke Extraglaze Secondary Glazing developed for listed buildings

While we'd love to say that we have developed our product for English Heritage, or for the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), we actually develop Extraglaze Secondary Glazing for each and every client, just whenever we are asked to. And, as we do this, nothing does us more proud than receiving some approving looks or blatant praise from a local Conservation Officer. Quite simply we take great enjoyment from solving your secondary glazing challenges!

On this page you will read about just a few of those that presented themselves in listed buildings. In each case we developed several ideas, in our heads, on paper or with prototypes before agreeing with the customer exactly how to proceed, and ultimately solved difficult problems. In at least three of the examples here a Conservation Officer was party to discussions before work started, and vetted the end result – to the delight of our clients!

arrowpichigh tiny Example 1: A client with a 16th Century Farmhouse with original timber mullioned windows on the northern side with glazing (identified in an English heritage book) commissioned Extraglaze Secondary Glazing to provide magnetic secondary glazing. A magnetic panel was developed to disappear into a distorted oak frame, with a draft excluder on the bottom edge to avoid adding an additional room facing surface along the sill. We also developed panels with two new choices of oak effect vinyl edge sourced exclusively for this client.

arrowpichigh tiny Example 2: A client with a Grade 2 Listed black and white half timbered detached house built in 1580. This commission was particularly challenging since some of the windows were dramatically trapezoid. For this building a magnetic panel was developed to disappear into the distorted oak frame using a veneer instead of vinyl. Sliding panels were also developed incorporating magnets which were a new and bespoke development peculiar to this building.

arrowpichigh tiny Example 3: A client with a Regency listed building with original panel single pane sash windows and a first floor door to a balcony. Extraglaze Secondary Glazing worked with the local Conservation Officer and gained approval for secondary glazing which took into account the distortions to all windows, ensuring maximum sound and heat insulation. The glazing was developed specially for this building and offered a higher level of sound proofing than a standard Extraglaze Secondary Glazing installation.

arrowpichigh tiny Example 4: A client with an apartment in a grade 2 listed converted Victorian coach house with three large wood framed windows. Extraglaze Secondary Glazing developed a magnetic panel to work around an extractor fan and still be invisible. As the panels to be installed were very large and exposed to the full force of the summer sunshine for prolonged periods, Extraglaze Secondary Glazing, through various trials, also changed their adhesive and developed their installation methods to solve problems that presented themselves on this job.

Scientifically proven

In April 2014 we received confirmation that Extraglaze is a scientifically proven thermal insulation solution that beats a typical aluminium framed alternative.

Extraglaze is both a supplier and installer of specialist secondary glazing services, with a rapidly expanding network of trained fitters. Our customers include home owners, offices, schools, even holiday resorts with single glazed windows. We frequently install our secondary glazing in listed buildings and conservation areas, as well as church conversions, often with arched and stone framed windows. Extraglaze will even turn double glazing into triple glazing, and stop condensation. If you live in a noisy city or town centre, especially with draughty, badly sealed sash windows, it will bring you the sound insulation you never imagined possible, even as you watch the traffic pass by! We insulate sash windows and insulate casement windows. All our panels are made to measure. We make special shapes, arches and out-of-square panels, even bowed (3 dimensional) panels for windows that follow curved facades. We supply and fit magnetic secondary glazing for sash windows and casement windows, and of course stained glass windows. If you require energy saving windows then insulating sash windows is a great alternative to window replacement or window renovation. The low cost of secondary double glazing is affordable compared to replacement sash windows & replacement casement windows. Extraglaze offers window thermal insulation and sound insulation for existing windows including stained glass windows. Both double glazed sash windows and triple glazed sash windows are possible. Extraglaze can turn draughty old windows into energy efficient windows.
